The future main promenade through Campus will be built at its southern side. At the eastern side there will be a square, while the western and northern side, with a view from the street of Cara Hadrijana, occupies the existing road with the planned public parking lot which is owned by the University and which will be built alongside of SKIMCO. The awarded architectural concept and the draft design of the SKIMCO building were developed by the project team of the company SANGRAD Ltd. from Zagreb. Geometric characteristics of the building are: height: 20m (6 levels: 2 basement areas, ground floor, 2 floors and a roof level), ground plan layout: 76,5m x 45,7m, gross building surface: 11.169,75 sq.m. The space organization: Basement areas will be used as book depositories, furnished with compactus storage systems, which will run on electric power, and other service areas. At the ground floor near the main entrance, there will be the central multi-functional area with the main info booth and info terminals. This area will be used for organization of different activities (culture and art performances). It will be also used for a University book store, selling all of the University press (books, magazines, etc.). At the opposite side, looking at the atrium, there will be a congress hall with a capacity of 325 seats, of which seven will be accessible from the auditorium. Because of its size and specific functions it will be situated at the ground floor, where there will be a separate entrance with complementary areas and it will also offer a possibility of auxiliary functions, separate from the library and multimedia activities. Besides, the ground floor will also have a café bar which will also spread into the atrium if weather will allow. The facing side (the northern side) is going to be constructed out of a series of administrative and secondary service areas, as well as a University TV and radio studio. The first floor will be used as a large library reading room with other adjacent space, individual reading rooms and areas designed for scientific research at the southern side, as well as individual reading cubicles, a balcony and certain administrative service rooms. There will be a multi-functioning hall and a lodge designed to be used by the visitors of the congress above the entrance level of the congress. The second floor will be used for reading room, offering periodicals for scientific research, special collections and multimedia space (individual reading rooms, computer room and computer incubator), multi-functional areas / area for study groups, which is going to be situated above the multi-functional hall and administrative and service rooms. The multi-functional hall will lead into the outside stage area on the roof of the congress hall. The roof area will be an open space, covered by solar collectors, which will cover and hide multiple air conditioning units. „SKIMCO“ has been designed as a passive building of an A+ class, and will thus incorporate the elements of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, as well as environment protection. The heating and cooling of the building will be maintained through the heat pulley water – water, with the main boiler room only as a backup system. This means that the heating and cooling uses 100% renewable energy sources (RES). The heating system and the cooling system are designed in such a way that it is possible to heat one part of the building while cooling the other part all at the same time, depending on the needs and orientation of the building. All areas are being vented by pressure. The book archive sections, depository archives, archive and such (areas containing books) are artificially air-regulated in terms of temperature and moisture values. Those areas are being cooled, heated, held wet and vented through the air-conditioning chambers. | |
